Two Weeks Old!

Kennedy Mae, you were two weeks old on Wednesday, 9/22!  For your two week check up you weighed more than your birth weight!  You weighed 8lbs and 7oz.  We also had to go back on Friday and when they weighed you then you were 8lbs and 12oz, so you are growing great and eating great!  Here you are all ready for your appointment on Tuesday!

You are wearing the shirt that mommy made for you and the bow that Natalie made for you!  You are my ZTA Legacy girl!

Things we have learned about you so far:
-You are a great nurser and you take your time
-You love to toot
-We can normally catch a smile from you as you are going to sleep
-Daddy can put you to sleep by just holding or rocking you, you love your daddy
-You sleep one 4 hour stretch at night, usually from 9:30pm on.  Then you are up every 2 hours to eat
-We stay in bed until 10am most mornings so mommy can get some rest too!
-You like your paci
-Mommy thinks you will have green eyes, and daddy thinks you will have brown
-You love the moby wrap
-You seem to like outside, just like Lincoln
-You look like your brother, but you also look like me
-You can lift you head pretty good for a two week old
-At the doctors office, you followed your hand! (A milestone they look for a two months, you are smart)

That is a lot to know about you in just two weeks.  I am so excited I get to be home with you right now so I can see you grow everyday.

On your two week birthday we went to see daddy play softball!  Here you are all dressed up for the game!

You slept through the whole game and woke up on the way home, silly girl!

We love you Kennedy Mae!

The Return of Jaundice

Two Monday's ago we got discharged from the hospital because they felt like Kennedy's jaundice levels were down.  We went in for a recheck on the following Tuesday and they had gone up slightly and wanted us to do indirect sunlight with her and have her rechecked on Friday. Here she is with Daddy before the Tuesday appointment.

On her way to get checked, so cute!

At the Friday appointment, her levels had gone up enough that they wanted to bring lights out to the house.  Here is K in her new cool tanning glasses.

We have a picture of Lincoln just like this.  Here lamb is watching over her.

Each day a nurse would come out and draw her blood.  We had the bed for three days before they took it away.  Here is my Mom on Sunday helping out while Craig went to the TCU game.  Love you mom!

It was a hard three days, but it was so nice when we just got to hold her.  We had a check again this past Tuesday to see how her levels were and they had gone up again.  Our doctor decided to check for other things and had to take 4 viles of blood from her, it was just awful! We went back on Friday for results and another recheck and everything came back ok, and her level had gone down a bit, not much, but enough to not worry as much.  So while we still don't know what is causing her to have jaundice this long, we hope this will be the end of it soon and we can just enjoy our little girl!

Hospital Newborn Pictures

Please check out the lastest 5 posts of Kennedy!

We got her hospital newborn pictures in the mail today!  I was so excited because I think they turned out great!  She wore the take home dress my mom bought and the flower that Jenny made for her.  She looked so sweet in all of them, enjoy!
I love the detail on this dress!
The bracelet was Jenny's daughter's.

The blanket goes with the other take me home dress my mom got her.

Big brother giving her kisses.
My sweet little angel girl!  I love you Miss Kennedy!
We have her other newborn shoot next week, I am super excited!

A Case Of Newborn Jaundice

Ever since Kennedy was born, she has had a red skin tone to her.  She had a lot of bruising from coming down the birth canal and everyone said it would lighten up with time.  To us she never seemed to get any lighter and on Saturday really started to look like a pumpkin to us.  She was also very sleepy and only waking up for feeds.

We had a scheduled appointment on Sunday for a routine check and so we decided to wait it out until then.  I really wish we had not because when we got to the check up her bilirubin (the blood cells that make you look jaundice) were in the high range.  The nurse called our doctor and they sent us to cook children's right away.  I was very scared and cried all the way to the car.  Lincoln also had high bilirubin, but they were able to treat it with home light therapy.  Hers was so high that we had to go to the hospital.

When we arrived that admitted us quickly and put in an iv.  It was so painful to watch such a big needle go into her little arm.  They started the photo therapy right away while we waited for a room.  Here she is all hooked up in the bed.
I guess a girl has to start her tanning early these days.
After about 2 hours we were moved to a room for an overnight stay.  They had the room temp up to 90 degrees so she would not be cold in just her diaper.  Of course that made us uncomfortable, but it was worth it get her better.  They put me on a strict feeding schedule of nursing ever 1-2 hours.  Here she is out for one of her feedings.
She could only be out long enough to feed and then we put her back under the lights.  I was lucky that she wanted to sleep the whole time, because it looked so uncomfortable.  I only got 1.5 hrs of sleep that night and had no pain meds with me, so I was super tired and achy the next day.
They checked her level the next day around 2pm and by 4pm they said we could go home!  Her level was down to a safe range and she would need to be checked again in 24 hours at the regular doctors office.  Here are her cool sun glasses.
Here is Kennedy after we got home.  She looks a lot better to us, but we still needed to watch it since she was still somewhat red/yellow.
The next day we headed to the doctor to get her checked again.  We got to dress her up in her first outfit!  Look at the cute bow Jenny made for her.
Big yawn!

She was a pro for the last stick and barely cried.  Here levels went up a bit but are still in the safe range.  We are going to continue to watch it and feed her often.  She gets another check on Friday and hopefully we are in the clear at that time.  It has been a crazy adventure so far with her to say the least.  We are happy to be home again and sleeping in our own bed!  Hopefully it can stay that way.

Great Grandparents Visit

On Saturday, My parents and Grandparents stopped over for a visit to see miss K Mae.  Here is my mom with Kennedy.
Being a sweet girl.
My dad and Grandma in the background.
Everyone together with Kennedy and Lincoln.
Here is my grandpa with Lincoln and Kennedy, so cute!
Later that day Linc wanted to hold K again.
He wanted to know why she had an ouchie.  Poor thing will get a few more of those in the coming days :(
Here hospital band before we took it off to give her a bath.
All sweet and cozy right before her bath.
Time for the dreaded first bath, haha.  You just have to go in knowing they will scream and not like it.  She was no different and screamed the whole time, but we got through it and she smelled so good!

First Day Home

Friday afternoon was our first night home with Kennedy.  Craig's parents and my parents both came over.  Craig's parents brought us some food their friends had made for us, some yummy chicken spaghetti!  It was very nice to be home but also made me nervous.  Babies are always better at the hospital and turn into night owls when they get home, haha.  Here are Craig's parents with Kennedy.
Sweet little sleeper!
My parents with Kennedy.
Lincoln's first night home with Kennedy, my little cheese man!
Unlike in the hospital, as soon as we got home with her, Lincoln wanted to hold and love on Kennedy.  He wanted to feed her, but we had to tell him only mommy can feed her.  He said, she can eat from my boobs too and then lifts his shirt, so cute!  We did have him hold her right before bed that night and he loved it.
I walked out of the room for a bit to get a picture of the yummy cookies we got from my Aunt Terri!
When I came back in, this is what I found, everyone asleep!  It was so cute!  Lincoln must have been tired from not napping good and staying up past his bed time because this never happens.  We just picked him up and put him in bed and he didn't get up until 9:15 the next morning!
That was great for me, because I spent most of the night in the chair with her.  Babies always change their colors when they come home, haha.  She slept great in the hospital, and slept good at home too, but just wanted me to hold her.  Overall I would say our first night went great!
